How To Increase Your Visibility And Profits

We've heard so much about relationship selling. It's not that customers now want to buy from a pal, someone they can go drinking with. They want relationships with businesspeople who can help them make smart purchasing decisions. Discover how you can be perceived as this kind of valuable resource in How To Increase Your Visibility And Profits.

IN DEPTH

Are you positioning your company or yourself as the resource people think of when they need to purchase the product or service you offer? In the realm of marketing, the saying, "out of sight, out of mind," is certainly valid. The truth is if you aren't visible, if people don't know about what you do, they can't take advantage of what you have to offer, however worthwhile it may be.

So here are some proven strategies for dramatically boosting your visibility in the marketplace:

Write articles and get them published where customers and prospects will see them
This will give you enormous credibility, and you'll have the opportunity to educate your market and show them your expertise. The possibilities are unlimited: local newspapers, trade journals, magazines, newsletters, online publications, among others. And don't use the excuse that you can't write. Speak into a tape recorder and take the tape to a copywriter who can develop well-written articles from your material.

Include public speaking
You gain credibility and exposure by speaking to people in your target market. But be careful not to turn them off with a hard sell. If you provide people with valuable information and let them know what you do, you will generate business and referrals. Here again, don't let your fears or perceived lack of ability stop you. Get out there and do it, and you'll improve with every presentation.

Maintain regular contact with your customers
Don't believe for a minute that your customers are always thinking of you just because they bought from you in the past. People are bombarded daily with messages from a host of companies, many of which are your competitors. Some of the ways to keep in touch with your client base are with monthly flyers, quarterly newsletters, a postcard series and weekly e-mail messages. Regardless of your approach, you don't have to spend a lot of money. Just keep in mind that the key is to communicate on a consistent basis.

Put up a Web site
This no longer is the huge expense you might think it is. Many Web designers can get a small business up and running for just a few hundred dollars. There are also monthly hosting charges, but these are not prohibitive. Include your Web site address on all your promotional materials and invite people to visit you online. If you regularly update the site and provide material of interest to your market, you will have people coming back to visit again and again.

Network
Most of us can't sit in our offices and expect business to walk right in. It's so important to be out and meeting people who can either use your services or refer qualified prospects to you. So get out there and attend some networking functions each month. (Tip: The most valuable thing you can do is to serve others in your network. That will motivate them to think of you.)

Remember, the trick is to make sure you're the one people think of when they need something in your field of expertise. In reality, very few businesses take full advantage of the ideas just mentioned. The ones that do achieve a far greater level of success than those that slack off when it comes to self-promotion. With this in mind, I urge you to implement these powerful strategies, become visible and watch your business prosper.
